About the Course

This is the third course in the Google Cybersecurity Certificate. These courses will equip you with the skills you need to apply for an entry-level cybersecurity job. You’ll build on your understanding of the topics that were introduced in the second Google Cybersecurity Certificate course. In this course, you will explore how networks connect multiple devices and allow them to communicate. You'll start with the fundamentals of modern networking operations and protocols. For example, you'll learn about the Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) model and how network hardware, like routers and modems, allow your computer to send and receive information on the internet. Then, you'll learn about network security. Organizations often store and send valuable information on their networks, so networks are common targets of cyber attacks. By the end of this course, you'll be able to recognize network-level vulnerabilities, and explain how to secure a network using firewalls, system hardening, and virtual private networks. Google employees who currently work in cybersecurity will guide you through videos, provide hands-on activities and examples that simulate common cybersecurity tasks, and help you build your skills to prepare for jobs. Learners who complete this certificate will be equipped to apply for entry-level cybersecurity roles. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, you will: - Describe the structure of different computer networks. - Illustrate how data is sent and received over a network. - Recognize common network protocols. - Identify common network security measures and protocols. - Explain how to secure a network against intrusion tactics. - Compare and contrast local networks to cloud computing. - Explain the different types of system hardening techniques....

Like guiding through network and security elements ... fast. Challenging and rich in content but not going into too deep. The following courses in the certificate will delve deeper, I imagine.

The way to learn

By Vladimir L

The course seems to me very introductory and superficial. Some topics refer to terms introduced much later. TCP header was introduced very loosely. In one place it contained the sender address, the next time it contained the destination address. Overall TCP/IP communication and sequence of events was not described however, material implied knowledge of it. There are other loose ends in the course which shake the lecturer credibility. It is disappointing.

It took me about 4 days to go over this course and I was able to learn a few new things using external sources for connecting loose ends.

This is a very practical course covering topics that someone coming from a completely non-technical background will find hard to absorb. I would recommend the mentor's delivery should be a little controlled because it makes it overwhelming to process all the information delivered at such a rapid rate. Plus, there should be more exercises included that focus on making the network from scratch and include some more information on topics subnetting. Thank you.

The lack of examples and guidance was super frustrating, and the how to read the logs information provided was not very helpful either. A lesson should've been provided on how to actually interpret and use the resources. I had to rely on youtube and other sources for a lot of further explanation. I would've liked to see them use their Rhyme program for some of these activities, it would've been super helpful in making the example reports.

I'll be honest, this course nearly turned me off of this certificate entirely. The concepts themselves were not challenging - I can memorize anything. There was a complete lack of context provided in the videos and readings. How am I supposed to relate these dozens of new concepts to anything without real world examples? Shoving a dictionary full of acronyms in my face is not learning. Giving me weird metaphors to decipher about houses and letters is not learning. I found myself seeking (free!) resources outside of this course to better understand the terms introduced to me (YouTube, cybersecurity forums, etc). I used flashcards to memorize protocols and found myself needing to constantly review my notes prior to jumping in to a new session. The worst part is that after finally completing this course, it is so very clear to me that network security is easily the most important domain - it is the birthplace of keeping data within an organization secure. And yet it has been the least accessible course thus far.

Eh. The terms used aren't the ones CompTIA likes so it will be confusing for no reason. Some questions you look at seem to have multiple answers when they're single choice. It continues the tradition of useless creative writing assignments. It makes one wonder if they UXed it.

I feel like the videos did not align well with the text content and the larger projects seemed too large and overwhelming - I would've preferred a more gradual project introduction. The text content should enforce what the video content showed, not introduce entirely new information.

I found that this course was easy to follow for someone who does not have a tech degree. I loved the course and thought that it helped reinforce the ideas and concepts that I learned in the initial introductory class. The class covered the following concepts: CISSP’s eight security domains, primary threats, risks, and vulnerabilities to business operations, National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Risk Management Framework (RMF) and the steps of risk management. I encourage prospective learners to consider this program, as it not only enriches one's understanding but also imparts the practical skills requisite in the contemporary digital landscape.

This course, as in the others in this specialization, presents a very good outline of the subject matter. The quizzes and activities can be completed using the information given within the course. That information is organized well and is well and clearly presented. However, it is important to take the reading assignments seriously. This course is a start. It sets the learner on a path. To get the full value of the course, the learner will need to go beyond the material within the course and follow up on the references cited in the reading assignments.

A very exciting course, indeed. It seems to be one of the best Google courses so far. In fact, I have taken and completed other Google Professional Certificates such as Google IT Support, Google IT Automation with Python, and Google Project Management. This Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate is definitely my favorite hands down. I will certainly leave another review at the end of the following courses including a more thorough one after completing course 8. I definitely would recommend it.

I won't lie, this course is challenging; it will tempt you not to sleep. However, the knowledge you will gain will be very valuable. If until now you haven't understood anything about this course, it's likely because you're a beginner. But this networking course will help you understand and feel very professional after completing it. You'll start discussing data analysis tools and talking about the advantages and disadvantages of choosing to work in a physical environment versus a digital one.

Excellent course for a beginner. Everything is explained concisely and in a simple way to help understanding and memorizing the important concepts about the network and network security. Moreover, the quizzes and small projects at the end of each module help me to summarize what I learned and apply the knowledge in a real situation. The course combines the understanding concepts and practicing through the assignments, and for me, this is the best way to learn cybersecurity.

This course really includes a lot of information and sometimes it is difficult to assimilate everything, but at the same time, although overwelming is fascinating and everything begins to make sense, what I would like would be more interaction with the tools and procedures in real life and practicing with day-to-day tools. ., however I believe and hope that this certificate is designed to progress step by step and I am very excited to continue moving forward and learning.

This course may seem easy on the surface, but upon closer examination, it is quite challenging. I have learned a great deal from this course. It introduced me to concepts and entities related to cybersecurity that were unfamiliar to me. In areas where there were difficulties, there was also diligence, but I ultimately passed successfully. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my instructors and mentors for their invaluable guidance and support.

It has very good case or assignment about assessing and report cybersecurity attacks and preventing procedure based on the most important DOS, DDOS, attacks, ICMP Packets and the five NIST CSF. Those include (1) Identifying Security risks, (2) Protecting internal assets, (3) Detecting potential security incidents, (4) Responding to the attack and recovering , and (5) Restoring systems data and assets that have been affected by an incident.
