And one of the things I found really interesting, was learning about
all the different sites where one can do, preventive work on violence.
From law enforcement, public health approaches looking,
you know the legal realms, community organizations.
And there are so many people and organizations involved, and
there are just so many approaches and, somewhere in there something works.
>> I agree, and
looking at things like the project ceasefire that was done in Atlanta as
well as out in the mid-west where you can actually target, high risk gang members.
Or those that, you know, at risk for
youth violence within the city by involving those that either have been
involved in violence, involved in the criminal justice system.
You know, mothers of survivors, you know,
just really shows the how you can do that, the grassroots level.
And then I think looking at with youth violence again looking at impacting at
societal lever as well as individual risk factors and
protective factors to really have a difference.
And then, of course, personally I was excited about
the safe communities Emery program that we had done talking about how you can
get stakeholders from across you know, different disciplines,
whether it be religion, criminal justice, public health to impact violence.
And my hope is,
that although some of these interventions were quite large, that people will
see what they might be able to do in their own back yard to impact violence.
>> Exactly. And, and I think that was for
me one of the most exciting things about this week was, the community level
organizations which started with peep's, people's passion to do.
>> Right. >> something different,
like men stopping violence >> Yes.
>> like the various organizations in Liberia who
are really trying to make a difference to their communities,
using the tools they have, being creative about dramatic performances.
It's really, it's really quite inspiring in, in, actually, I thought.
also, for me, as we wrap up this course, I think for
me one of the take homes has been, really the importance of empathy.
>> Mm-hm.
>> Of putting one's self in another's place,
in trying to understand why some people are violent.
Why the kind of risk factors that lead to perpetration of violence,
as well as being a victim.
