[MUSIC] Hello, I'm professor Duck-Joo Lee. We are almost end of this course, we have only one lecture left except this class. Time really past fast. How was your day today? Were you happy? I have told you over and over that the sole purpose of our lives is to be happy. However, that simply has not been our reality so far. I think now finding the everlasting happiness should be our life purpose. Last time I told that schools begin to adopt the meditation for students. Meditation has been introduced as a way of the personality education. And a students can self-reflect their past and to find their own solutions of dealing with present trouble that weighing on their mind. If students can make a habit of doing meditation in their daily lives, they certainly can enjoy their school years to the utmost. Well then, what about after they become members of a society? In South Korea, there are diverse meditation programs are available such as a form of lifelong education for adults and also for employees in companies and the government offices. I'm not so sure how well do you know Korean companies, but a lot of companies are participating in this meditation programs such as Samsung, Yuhan-Kimberly, SK Telecom, Seoul Office of Education, Ministry of Public Administration and Security, and Fire service academy. For example with the subjectof Happy meditation for self-examination and self-management , 120 employees of Yuhan?Kimberly didself-reflection meditation. After the meditation, all the employees said this. It was nice to know the method for subtracting the negative minds I became to know the pictures of a memories in my mind that were not real and by discarding it. I was able to find the true mind. I felt my head becomes clear, The meditation helped me relieve my worries and stress. Everything is within my mind and that was the problem. I found out how everything which I felt and thought were all self-centered. Through the universe mind, happiness is achieved. After discarding the mind, life feels new. When I thought of work at home, I became stressed. However, now I can discard those minds straight away when they come using the subtraction method I learned today. Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation which has been in charge of Cadastral surveying and providing national geospatial data since 1938 in Korea. needed self-reflection meditation. The corporation's 27 managers carried out the self-reflection meditation. We visited them and asked about their backgrounds in and starting the meditation and it's effect. I will show you through this photo clip. [MUSIC] As members of corporations and public enterprises, and as the driving force of modern society these people too, were relieving stress and living happier days through the meditation. They are able to relieve the stress, coming from the work and able to live as a happier person. Today, I would like to pay attention to the lives of firefighters. Firefighters are the first onethat rush out to the fire site. I remember that terrible that 911 attack. The dangers of the disaster are always lurking. At those times, fire fighters are always there to save lives. But it is a mentally and physically challenging job, Therefore , as a part of the PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)program, Korea's Gyunggi District Fire Service Academy has been carrying out self-reflection meditation for 32 fire lieutenants of the Gyunggi district. Many doctors and psychology specialists have been researching ways to overcome PTSD. But it's was difficult to find a way to treat the trauma itself. The method that firefighters have finally found to be the most effective was meditation. In Korea, Korea's Gyunggi-Do Fire Service Academy established a course for junior executives. As you can see in the Fire Academy they are doing the self-reflective meditation in order to overcome the trauma. I will introduce to you the story of a firefighter Jang-Hak Soo. who overcome his trauma with his meditation and is continuously working in the field since 2005. The worst thing in this line of work is the all kinds of terrible sights you have to face at the accident scene. Memories and images I experienced during incidents such as death from fall, car accident, suicide, and fire are stamped on my mind and haunted me every now and then, and also appeared in my dreams to cause night terror. Then I met the self-reflective meditation and made the steady effort. As a result, fear of moving out to the fire site was gone and I got the sense of gratitude instead. For being able to do what I do, for being able to help others, and for having my colleagues. Best of all, I was free from all those horrible memories that haunted me. Now, even in the situations that I would normally want to evade, I deal with the incident with a calm attitude. Firefighters and the police officers naturally suffer from the PTSD more than other jobs, and that means they might badly in need of the meditation. As you shake off that burden of mind, and subtract baggage of memories which have been weighing you down forever, you can finally live everyday as a new day with peaceful mind. I just took an example from a firefighter. But don't we all have a small or big trauma of our own? That is what's causing the stress. As each member of our society we can free from their stress and that the society we are living in will get brighter in no time. Now, let us start the subtraction Now close your eyes please. Time passed really fast. 10 years from now. 20 years from now have passed. Now 50 years, 100 years and the two. Hundred years have past. For those who can imagine, one thousand years have passed . I'm dead. Acknowledge that your dead and accept it in your mind. I am dead and become a spirit now and goes up into the universe. There's a big deeper behind me and the huge, blackhole in front of me. A blackhole sucks on everything near it including planets. The small Earth that I lived in is also sucked in Just like it cleans floating garbage in the space, it will clean whatever I recall in my mind. You're going to discard your life at the Earth and memories. Today, we will continue doing what you did yesterday. discarding things related to worries. Recall all the moment s that made you felt anxious from when you're young. Sometimes it was about the stress from studying and your grade. You were anxious about not getting into the college you wanted, not getting the job you prepared for, or the marriage. Discard the image of yourself worrying. about unknown future into the black hole. You might have worried about when you are old and weak. Seeing older people made you worry about your own future when get old. Recall those insecure and anxious thoughts and then discard them as well. Everyday I had moments when my continuous worries did not end. Recall and throw it into the black hole one by one. As soon as you throw it into the black hole it immediately disappears. You will repeat these things one more time. Recall those moments, that made you felt anxious from when you were young. Sometimes it was about the stress from studying. and your grade. You were anxious about not getting into the college you wanted. Not getting the job you prepared for, or the marriage. Discard the images of yourself worrying about unknown future into the black holes. You might have worried about when you are old and weak.
. Seeing older people made you worry about your own future when you get old. Recall those insecure and anxious of thoughts. And discard them as well. Every day I had a moment when my continuous worries did not end. Recall and throw it into the black hole, one by one. As soon as you throw it into the black hole it immediately disappears. Let's just stop here today. Close your eyes for a moment. Everything you have recalled so far actually disappeared into the black hole. Now, open your eyes. After the lecture, I hope you take some time of your own to look back on your life on your own. I guess some of you could have hard time following. And for those I recommend repeated practice. Repetition is always very effective Now, we are trying to change our life that is incomplete due to the pictures into completion. A little bit of patience is required. Today, we continued on last class topic and the practiced twice repeating it. Do you feel anything different? In week four and five, we have practiced self-reflection repeatedly. Likewise, subtraction should be done through repetition. Fire fighter Jang-Hak Soo also said he made a steady and persistent effort to discard the strong pictures of intense accident memories. What I'm trying to say is that some pictures are gone with one try, but some memories you need dozens of times of repeated discarding. So please don't get disappointed by they don't disappear in one try, and they pop up again after the discarding. The continuously recalled pictures are intense memory that means that much to you or something. you took one scene in your mind and dwell on them over and over again making bunch of other copies. Once you discard the image, it is gone for sure. Just so many copies are still left and that's all. When keep discarding one day you will realize that you have no recalling memories anymore, then the past memories do no affect your current life. It is important to exercise with the right method with patience. Does it make sense to you? Ask any questions if you don't understand. I will see you next time, next class is last lecture of this course. Thank you.
