Welcome to week one. I'm really excited about the things that we're going to be sharing with you this week. We've got a lot of great Berklee professors coming to share their knowledge with us. And I can't wait to dig in and get started. This week we're going to be focusing on laying the foundation for your work as an artist. We're going to be taking some time to reflect, do a little bit of writing, and to think about who you are as a person, as an artist, as a manager, and as a leader. We're going to be talking with Steven Weber, and he's going to be sharing with us his ideas about identity, vision, and intention. These are three things that are really, really important to be thinking about as an artist. Next, we're going to be also talking with Panos Panay who's the director and founder of the Berklee Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship, and he's going to be talking with us about how musicians are perfectly matched to be entrepreneurs. There are a lot of skills that kind of crossover that musicians and entrepreneurs both have. Finally, we're going to be talking about how to find that balance between being a business person and being an artist. When you're a musician, and you're trying to launch your music career, you're going to be doing a lot of things yourself. You're going to need to be actively trying to find that balance between those two pieces of yourself. And so, we're going to talk about some strategies about how you can more effectively manage those tasks. It's my hope that by the end of this lesson, you'll be able to clearly describe your image, your vision, and your intention for your music, that you'll be able to discuss how artists are naturally entrepreneurial, and how your music skills can help you be a more successful entrepreneur. You'll be able to identify your strengths and your weaknesses as a leader. You'll be able to discover who you are as a leader and who you want to be as a leader. And finally, that you'll be able to identify strategies for balancing the management of your band with the creation of your music. So, let's get started.
