[MUSIC] Hello, welcome to the Diversity MOOC. My name is Junko Takagi. I'm a Professor of Management at ESSEC Business School and responsible for the ESSEC Leadership and Diversity Chair. Over the past decade or so, many firms around the world have come on board the diversity and inclusion bandwagon. In France, for example, over 3,500 firms have signed the Diversity Charter since it was launched in 2004. In Germany, where the Charter was launched in 2006, they already have over 2,300 firms that have already signed on. It may well be that your firm has signed something similar in your country. This begs the question, why? Why is diversity and inclusion important for firms? We did a survey of the top firms in France, Germany, USA, Brazil, and South Africa to find out why diversity and inclusion are important for them.
