In this video, we'll be talking about Residential Schools for the Deaf and how IDEA had such an impact on the residential schools. Regarding the deaf community, education, identity, all were impacted. Parents were noticing that IDEA provided accommodations for their children at the mainstream schools and they were very pleased with that. They were able to have their children with them, while meanwhile at the residential schools, there was no parents there. "You're away from your parents which could be a big negative." But, the great thing about the residential schools is that deaf community, the camaraderie, the deaf community, deaf culture, which is missing in the mainstream schools. Do you, have you, you miss that sense of identity, that self-esteem and you're not in that deaf culture. It's a big difference.
