In this video, we'll be talking about IDEA, Individuals with Disabilities Act passed in 1975. And, before this law was passed, the state alone was providing the funds for accommodating individuals with disability in the education setting. And, after this law, there was federal funds that were granted to the states to help with education. For example, here in Texas there's a residential school in Austin for the deaf, there's, and Houston is nearby and Dallas is nearby. Here in Houston, parents of a deaf child may not have wanted to send their children all the way to Austin. They wanted to send their child to a local school and with this law, they were able to send their child to a local school because they were able to provide services for the child now.
