[MUSIC] I want to share with you one of my experiences with discrimination. When I was going to college, it was hard to make ends meet. Me and my girlfriend, and she's deaf as well, we decided to go look at different apartments. We found one and we decided to go in, we went to the leasing office, let them know that we're deaf. They told us to go a head and sit down. So we're sitting down and, but we're seeing that these other people are coming in and immediately being taken care of. So I went ahead and let them know, hey, I've been here for a while, and they kept telling me to sit down, they'll with me for a while. And we are waiting, and waiting, and waiting, it felt like forever. All these other potential clients were getting taking care of so quickly, but not us. Finally we were able to take a look at different apartments with different floor plans. But I couldn't get over our experience in the leasing office, so I said, okay thank you for your time. Me and my girlfriend got back home and we discussed what we're going to do. And so I thought I should call them, and understand, it's not 2017 at that time. The best we had at that time was TTY which is a teletypewriter. That way we go through an operator, so, I typed my message through an operator. We went to call the leasing office and the leasing office immediately hung up on the operator. I decided to call again, same thing, they hung up, at that point, I'm just furious, I'm fuming. I decided to go ahead in person into that apartment complex and I requested to speak to the manager. They were little taken aback and they said, okay, okay, sure sure. I explain my experience, but I did notice his attitude changed. And what I realized was that they weren't doing this on purpose. They just didn't know how to deal with deaf people and you know, that doesn't happen only at apartments. And an apartment is not just some little thing, this is your home. So, I was thinking how can we improve this experience for other people? Maybe give workshops, we just need to have this experience better for all people. So all people have the same experience when they're going for housing or whatever they're going in for.
