[MUSIC] Hello, as you can see we're going to talk about the word deaf and this is how you sign it, either way going up or down on the cheek. Now let's start with big D Deaf with a capital D. And there is small d deaf. And I would like to tell you about the difference of the two different ways to identify as deaf. Big D deaf, these individuals typically are very proud of their deafness, very socially active, politically active, love the language, have such a strong culture, and there's lots of camaraderie in the group. Now, little d deaf, these individuals typically don't identify as deaf they may just say, I'm just an individual who can't hear. I'm deaf, that's it, they may be very proud of their deafness or not. Are they very involved in their culture and language acquisition? May or may not, so that's the difference between little d deaf and big D deaf. I'd like to envision a debate among the deaf community, Regarding using the term big D Deaf and little d deaf, how about we just say deaf? Deaf, we're all the same. Nowadays, terms are changing and we'll see maybe in the future it will be deaf. Not big D deaf and little d deaf, the same concept with hearing, there's been talk of using capital HF, H hearing and little h hearing.
