Welcome to our course.
I want to tell you about the material that we'll be covering during our first week.
I'm Andy Josephson from UCSF. And the first module that you'll encounter
is one that I recorded, that involves an introduction to neuroanatomy.
Now, we're going to approach neuroanatomy in somewhat of a different way.
We're going to approach it using a clinical focus.
Focusing on the type
of neuroanatomy that clinicians need every day to be
able to see neurologic patients and diagnose their illnesses.
For some of you, this approach will be review.
But for the vast majority, this will be new
material, and it will be a lot of material.
So I'll have some suggestions in the lecture for other reference
books that you can use to supplement your knowledge in this area.
This serves as sort of a keystone for the course.
So the material you learn in this introduction to the
neuroanatomy, will then be built upon in the other clinical lectures.
You'll need this lecture to understand the other pieces of the course.
In our second module, Dr. Wade Smith will be talking to you about stroke.
Now stroke is obviously one of the most important and common neurologic illnesses.
And is a source of substantial morbidity and mortality.
Dr.
Smith will not only talk to you about the path
of physiology of stroke and how we can prevent it.
But will really focus on cutting edge treatments.
What we have in 2014.
That will allow us to take a patient who presents
with stroke, treat them rapidly and improve their eventual outcome.
We hope you enjoy this week.
And we hope you enjoy the course.
