О курсе

Drive change in your local community and influence society! This course examines specific strategies and perspectives of community organizing for social justice in a diverse, democratic society. You will analyze core concepts in practice (social justice, community, organizing, planning, strategy), as well as implement tools and methods for effective community organizing (the LARA method, community assessment, creating an elevator pitch for raising support, etc). Beginning with perception and bias, you will progress through each step of the organizing process, while creating your own action plan. This course will introduce you to tools for creating change within individual communities/schools and hear stories about lived experiences from those who have implemented community action projects. You also will hear from organizers around the United States, as well as local youth organizing groups based in Detroit, Michigan. A variety of learning activities are woven throughout the course - these can be used individually, with a group of people, or with several groups working together. Each week, you are encouraged to reflect upon, and share insights, as you adapt core concepts into your life and community....
